UGC NET is now called CBSE NET and one needs a Masters degree to attempt it. Earlier bachelor people in engineering could take CSIR NET but that paper is now removed leaving only GATE as an option for engineering people interested in research.
UGC NET consists of 3 papers and usually there are no negative marks.
- Paper 1 is aptitude and teaching ability and includes 60 questions out of which 50 are to be attempted each carrying 2 marks.
- Paper 2 is from General Computer Science and includes 50 compulsory questions with 2 marks each. 75 minutes.
- Paper 3 is from Computer Science and its application and includes 75 compulsory questions with 2 mark each – till 2011 this was a subjective paper. 150 minutes.
